Introduction
Research is an important way to strengthen the field of technology education. Sardar Patel College of Engineering (SPCE) started its journey in 1962 as a teaching technical institute. Within a short span of time it proved its potential and become a top engineering institute in Maharashtra. Initially it was focused to provide quality technical education to the nation with some consultancy and testing services to the society. After economic liberalization of government Indian industries were forced to adopt to new technologies and setup their own research centers. Consequently technical educations were also forced to take initiatives to fine-tune their activities to suit the changing needs of the world. SPCE always being front runner in the field of technical education, quickly realized the facts and started transforming itself towards research oriented technical education. Its effort led to many significant outcomes- autonomy to institute, dynamic curriculum introduced, faculties were motivated for higher qualification at premier institutes like IITs, number of master programs increased and doctoral scholar’s intake capacity increased, AICTE sponsored QIP center in civil engineering for PhD introduced. Institute channelized all available financial resources for research to fund quality research work. The provision of seed money of TEQIP-II, highly motivated the faculties and students to strengthen the research activities at SPCE. Collaborative research activities with premier institutes and industries have also been started by the faculties and students. Institute has a dedicated team of three research advisors from IITs to advise on institute’s research policies and to motivate faculty to enhance the research activities. In recent years there has been a significant growth in research potential of institute which being reflected through projects, publications and consultancy services.
